Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Qualified as a chartered accountant from Coopers & Lybrand, Chartered Accountants (currently known as Price Waterhouse Coopers). After completion of articles training, worked in Coopers as Assistant Manager in Business Assurance department for three years. During that tenure worked on various assignments including Business Advisory and Corporate Finance Services. Worked with various clients as job incharge including UN organizations, NGOs , Oil & Gas sector, Construction sector etc.

In June 2000 joined Nova Synpac (Pvt.) Limited, a polypropylene cement bags manufacturing company, and worked there for three years in the capacity of Finance Manager. As a departmental head, besides overall responsibility of Finance function, main focus was on Costing, budgeting, planning and forecasting, Business Plans for company’s various projects and arranging finances, Development of ERP and Budget analysis.

In August 2003, went to UAE and worked with Etisalat (Emirates Telecommunication Corporation) as an Internal Auditor for one year. In Etisalat, major responsibilities included assistance to management in coordinating and improving the overall performance of the Etisalat through appraising and evaluating the accuracy and reliability of all financial and accounting records and of related reports and statistics; reviewing the soundness, adequacy and application of all accounting, financial, administration and other management controls; highlighting weaknesses in the system revealed by routine, surprise and special audit checks and recommending improvements thereto.

In October, 2004 joined Trans World Associates (an Orascom Telecom Company) as Senior Manager Finance. Trans World provides bandwidth capacities to telecom operators in Pakistan as well as overseas and is the sole competitor of PTCL in Pakistan. Main responsibilities in Trans World included arranging finances for the project, development and updation of project business model, reporting to sponsors, preparation of budgets and forecasts on short term and long term basis including detailed variance analysis, liaison with the State Bank of Pakistan regarding various registrations and approvals including compliance of Prudential Regulations and development of an effective ERP system for the company.

In January 2007, joined LASANI Consulting (financial consultancy firm) as Partner and also started a chartered accountants firm with the name and style of S. M. Ali & Co., chartered accountants a Branch Office of UHY-Hassan Naeem & Co., Chartered Accountants.
